By using Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training as part of a comprehensive crisis prevention and intervention plan, staff can learn how to defuse challenging and disruptive behavior before an incident escalates to a crisis situation. Benefits to staff include: reducing the risk of injury by decreasing the number of physical interventions, improving communication among staff, and increasing staff confidence to intervene both verbally and physically as a last resort. The training emphasizes creating and maintaining a safe, caring, and respectful environment for staff and students. All participants who successfully complete the post-test will be certified through the Crisis Prevention Institute for two years. The training helps schools meet Wisconsin Act 125 requirements. All trainers are certified instructors through the Crisis Prevention Institute and have been updated to include new learning models and physical intervention options.
