Substitute Teacher Seminars are in response to a Legislative Bill which permits the temporary teacher certification of individuals with Associate Degrees and Bachelor Degrees in areas other than education. The training is designed to prepare prospective substitute teachers with basic information about the substitute's role. Participants who complete the training and practice will receive a certificate of completion. During the workshop, participants will be guided through the Department of Public Instruction’s application process for the 3 year short term Substitute Teacher License.
By the end of the program, participants will have a better understanding of:

Basic school district and school policies and procedures.

The culture of schools and the teaching profession.

Health and safety issues, including handling medical emergencies.

Discipline, conflict resolution, and classroom management technique

Techniques for starting a class.

Working with lesson plans.

Age-appropriate teaching strategies. (including technology)

Working with children with disabilities, including confidentiality issues.

Using the ELO system to secure a license
Audience: Participants with an Associate Degree or a Bachelor's Degree in areas other than education

Event Cost: $200 Per Registrant
Teacher Standards: All Wisconsin Standards will be addressed during the training.
