What is Orientation and Mobility?
Orientation and Mobility is that part of a blind and visually impaired child’s education that prepares him/her for more independent travel. Orientation refers to an awareness of one’s self in relation to the physical environment, as well as having an understanding of the many objects one encounters in their environment. It is for this reason that Orientation & Mobility specialists stress the area of concept development, particularly body image concepts, spatial orientation and environmental concepts. Mobility is the ability to travel safely, efficiently, and as independently as possible.
Tim Bauman is an Orientation and Mobility Specialist serving students and adults with vision impairment or blindness.
Tim Bauman received his BA in Education from Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI. He went on to get his graduate degree in Rehabilitation and Education for Vision Impairment with a focus on Orientation and Mobility as his master's of science at Salus University; formerly known as the University of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA. Tim is also fully licensed and certified nationally as a COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) with this recognition from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP).
